History

Borroloola Community Government Council commenced operations in April 1987. A progress association had worked for years to get local government in Borroloola. The first official Clerk of Council was Bernie Wencke. The first President was Roy Hammer. Contracts were let for Garbage Collection, Litter Clean and Dump Maintenance. The contracts were let for a few years until Council became more financial and more experienced in running the operation and then the works were taken over by Council employees.

The Council was first based in demountables on Lot 779 Robinson Road which used to be the Old Power Station. The demountables were used from 1987 to 1991 until the Hall and the New Office were built on Lot 384 Robinson Road.

The Council Hall now houses the Council Offices, Conference Room, Library, Sport & Recreation Office, and the McArthur River Mine Office.
